Introduction

Accelerating the transition to electric vehicles is crucial to confronting the climate crisis. EV adoption is gaining momentum, including multiple efforts underway across the country. The Biden-Harris Administration has set an ambitious goal for EVs to make up at least 50% of new car sales by 2030. To advance this goal, the administration is focusing on the key element of charging infrastructure. The administration aims to build a network of 500,000 EV chargers along America’s highways and in our communities. Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Energy have finalized new standards to make charging EVs more convenient and reliable for all Americans.

Bluedot, a payment platform for EV drivers and fleets, is committed to supporting these vital initiatives by helping to make the EV charging experience more accessible, reliable, and convenient for all. With the US market accounting for EV sales growing rapidly, the need for innovative solutions to address the challenges of this rapidly changing market has never been greater.

Let’s take a closer look at how Bluedot’s platform and ongoing innovations align with these important federal EV initiatives and new charging standards.

Bluedot’s Platform

Bluedot is a single payment and rewards platform for EV drivers and fleets to charge their cars and manage expenses.

Public charging remains difficult today, with challenges including a fragmented system, unpredictable costs, an unreliable experience, and issues with reimbursement, billing, planning, and maintenance. At Bluedot, we’ve seen these challenges firsthand. Before founding Bluedot, members of our team developed multiple in-car apps for various OEMs such as Renault, Mercedes, and Audi. We also installed and operated charging stations in Europe. Based on our experiences, we knew we wanted to tackle the problems we saw in the EV after-sales experience, particularly charging.

Bluedot’s platform addresses these challenges by providing a simple payment solution for charging and expense management. Our solution makes EV charging experience and payment more equitable, reliable and user-friendly.

Aligning with the New EV Charging Standards

Our platform aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration’s new standards for a national network of EV chargers in several ways.

Ensuring that charging is a predictable and reliable experience by providing a single payment solution for charging and expense management. By using Bluedot’s platform, drivers can pay for charging at any compatible EV charging station with a single method of identification. This eliminates the need for drivers to use multiple apps and accounts to charge, which is required by the new standards. It also gives drivers greater confidence in finding a place they can charge.

Ensuring that chargers are available when drivers need them by supporting visibility in a high-reliability standard of 97 percent uptime. The platform is built on a robust infrastructure that enables high uptime, giving drivers confidence that they can rely on Bluedot to work when they need it–whether it’s to help find a charger nearby, or to pay for a charging session. To further enhance transparency, Bluedot will soon introduce reliability scores for charging stations.

Ensuring that drivers can easily find a charger when they need to by providing accessible data on locations, price, availability, and accessibility. By serving up this data in a user-friendly format on our app’s map, Bluedot’s platform makes it easier for drivers to find compatible charging stations and plan their trips accordingly.

Conclusion

The US government’s latest set of actions aimed at creating a national network of electric vehicle chargers is a major step towards a sustainable future. By building a network of 500,000 charging stations and driving toward a goal of EVs making up at least 50% of new car sales by 2030, the Biden-Harris Administration is paving the way for a cleaner, more efficient transportation system.

Bluedot’s software platform and charging infrastructure align well with the Department of Transportation’s new standards for a reliable and convenient charging experience. By providing a seamless payment solution and combining that with the right software for our charging stations, Bluedot is helping to make EV charging more accessible, convenient, equitable, and reliable for all Americans. We are committed to working with the government and other stakeholders to build a more sustainable future, and we believe that our platform can play a key role in achieving this goal.
